Southern Photo’s survey department has a full service repair shop specializing in Topcon service and repair but also services most all other brands of survey and construction equipment. With our knowledgeable staff and quick turnaround time, we provide the highest level of customer satisfaction. We understand loss of time means profit loss for our clients so we minimize instrument repair time and also offer a loaner service.

Jim Warren, our shop manager, makes it his personal responsibility that things are performed to your expectations. He has over 36 years of experience in instrument repair at Southern Photo. He is a certified technician in many brands of instruments, including Gurley, K&E, Sokkia, Wild, Lietz and of course Topcon. He also specializes in the restoration of antique instruments.

Working along with Jim, we have 3 instrument technicians, 2 of which specialize in instrument electronics. They have over 11 years of experience on electronic instruments and both worked for Topcon America Corp. They are totally proficient in all areas of total station and GPS troubleshooting and repair. The 3rd team member has over 8 years of experience with Southern Photo. He has been well trained in the overhaul and calibration of builders levels, total stations and laser repairs.

Working closely with the repair shop is the training and support division of the survey department. This division is headed by Dean Howell. Dean is a licensed PLS that has been on staff with us for over 4 years. Dean’s responsibilities include the demonstration of robotic instruments and GPS, as well as the training and continued technical support after the sale. Dean received his AS degree from Sandhills Community College, worked in surveying beginning in 1991 and was licensed in 1998. He is also an approved sponsor by the NC Board of Examiners and teaches courses for professional development hours to surveyors and engineers. Needless to say, Dean has the experience and knowledge to assist our customers with any survey application or equipment questions.
